The Ukawu Scholarship Initiative (USI) is more than just a financial award — it is a transformational journey for brilliant, determined, and disciplined young minds from Ukawu community in Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
If you are an academically gifted student from an indigent background, with strong moral character and a commitment to serving your community, this opportunity is for you.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the USI, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Academic Qualification

Must have completed secondary school (SS3) with a minimum of five credits in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
Must have written the JAMB (UTME) and achieved the qualifying cut-off score for admission.
Must have received an official admission letter (provisional or confirmed) into a recognized Nigerian university or polytechnic.

Indigene & Background

Must be a bonafide indigene of Ukawu, Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State.
Must come from an indigent family — limited financial means, with no ability to fund higher education without support.

Age & Entry Requirement

Must be entering university or polytechnic education for the first time.
Applicants must not have previously enrolled in any higher institution.

Must not be more than 25 years old at the time of application.

Character & Discipline

Must demonstrate good moral conduct, discipline, and a strong desire to contribute to the community.
Must be unmarried at the time of application and remain unmarried throughout the duration of the scholarship.

Additional Requirements

To complete the application, you will need the following:
WAEC/NECO/NABTEB result
JAMB result slip
Admission letter from your institution (university or polytechnic only)
Reference letter from a ward councillor or a community leader
Two passport photographs

Selection Process

Our selection process ensures fairness, merit, and equal representation across all villages in Ukawu:

Eligibility Screening – All applications are thoroughly reviewed for authenticity and completeness.

Village-Based Raffle Draw – Qualified candidates are entered into a publicly conducted raffle draw that ensures geographic balance.

Final Selection – Three (3) scholars are selected each year. Those not selected remain eligible in future years, as long as they have not yet enrolled in school and are still within the age limit.

Scholarship Benefits

Eligible scholars will receive:
Five Hundred Thousand Naira only (₦500,000) annually (for university students)
Three Hundred Thousand Naira only (₦300,000) annually (for polytechnic students)
One Million Naira only (₦1,000,000) graduation incentive for First Class graduates in Bachelor’s degree or Distinction in HND programme
